Miami Herald Staff Report
Miami Herald Staff Report Healthy at Home nursing and therapy care facility in Hialeah hosted a celebration of nurses on May 9 as part of its observance of National Nurses Day.
"Home health care providers provide critical services for our community," said epidemiologist Gisselle Gonzalez. "Their ability to care for people at home and help reduce stresses on overburdened hospitals allow patients to convalescence in the comfort of their homes and recover faster."
Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina showed up to honor Healthy at Home nurses. He delivered a proclamation declaring National Nurses Week in the city and and awarded certificates of appreciation to the nurses.
"Today, we celebrate our home health nurses for their hard work and tireless devotion," said Healthy at Home’s Director of Nursing Wendy Shrader. "Nursing is a very difficult and challenging vocation. Nurses who serve their communities are dealing with increasingly complex issues in providing their patients with the best medical care in the country, demonstrating considerable skills and dedication.
"I thank home health nurses for their exceptional devotion and compassionate care given to those confined by illness to their homes."
Healthy at Home, 900 W. 49th St., opened in 2004. A company statement said one of its first and most dedicated employees was Meive Perez, a registered nurse who had been a doctor in Cuba before she emigrated in 1994.
Once here, Perez studied nursing to support her family.
Healthy at Home presented Perez with an award "to commemorate her devotion and loyalty to the company," the statement said.
